Under COVID-19, we're waiting patiently with an eye to the future

Although this is a challenging season, we believe great things are ahead.

Here’s a quick update for our friends around the world.

Markets are open, but closed borders have limited the food supply. In addition, public gatherings are still restricted but there is talk of lifting some or all of these measures later this month. For us, the restrictions have meant a total closure of our activities.

Ripple effects from the restrictions continue to be felt throughout the nation. The unofficial currency of the DRC is the U.S. Dollar. But since March, banks have only issued Congolese Francs. This has resulted in rapid inflation.

On the good news front, there have been no COVID-19 deaths reported in our city of Bukavu and no recent accounts of positive tests. Although there have been COVID-19 deaths in our nation, these are concentrated in the capital city of Kinshasa.

Patience is a conquering virtue.

In addition, our staff continues to meet weekly for planning and prayer. The staff is grateful to continue to be paid during the lockdown. The fact that our expenses have decreased during this time has helped to ease the financial strain.

We value and need your support – prayer, financial, emotional – now more than ever and as we “reboot” once restrictions are lifted. Thank you for your partnership.
