Despite the pandemic's pause, we still see God at work

We’re planning ahead for Vacation Bible School and to tutor children who will miss months of education.

We have good news in that there are no new reported cases of the coronavirus in our city of Bukavu. Yet the concern about the pandemic has disrupted life in ways that are probably familiar to nearly everyone:

  • People are hoarding food.

  • Some people are completely ignoring health and hygiene recommendations.

  • All of our activities are shut down at the Kanega Education Center and the same is true for schools and churches nationwide.

No one is quite sure how the school closures will affect children, their grades or their grade levels. Even in the best-case scenario, many students will have significant learning gaps and this is an opportunity for us to serve once people are back in circulation.

Out of difficulties grow miracles.

Despite the seriousness of the situation, God always gives glimmers of hope. One of these involves Tresor, our music teacher. He left for formal training in Belgium earlier this spring, but was immediately stranded there due to the pandemic. Schools shut down. However, God was not caught off guard and Tresor has been of great value serving a church in Peruwelz, Belgium, which is led by a Congolese pastor. You can visit the church’s Facebook page here. We are seeking to extend Tresor’s stay in Belgium so he can take full advantage of the opportunity to learn when school resumes.

In the meantime, we are seeking to make the most of this downtime to plan ahead and develop ourselves as teachers and servants of Christ in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. That planning includes Vacation Bible School, which is usually begins the last week of July.

Thank you for your prayers and faithful financial support.
