A crisis created an entrepreneur – and hope
After losing her job, Ricki Bikali used training and resources from Future Hope Africa to start a successful salted fish business.
When an employer made cutbacks, this family found a new start with the help of Future Hope Africa.
Ricki Bikali, a mother of three, had finished her education and had a job. So did her husband.
Then one day, they didn’t. Their employer made cutbacks and the family scrambled to make ends meet.
This was, to say the least, “a stressor,” according to Ricki.
Though she lacked an employer, Ricki had direction. After graduating from Future Hope Africa’s Focus Business School, “I was confident in what I was doing.”
“God is good. The work continues and my clients are always happy with my fish.”
After the family’s financial crunch, Ricky had $80 left. In addition, she received a $300 microloan from Future Hope Africa, which would need to be repaid within eight months. She invested it all in a business preparing and selling salted fish.
With Focus Business School training as her guide, she created a plan, then followed it. Ricki turned her $80 investment into $90 in monthly income. And she paid back her loan in full and in one lump sum.
To date, she’s been able to set aside reserves of $800.
“God is good,” she said. “The work continues and my clients are always happy with my fish.”
